Hubcentric spacers that bolt onto the existing studs and have their own studs will be fine. Scrub radius is effected but there isn't much or any proof of major adverse effects.
But I agree above the 150 you would spend on spacers could be spent elsewhere.
If you want a wider track then wider, lower offset wheels will be the way forward.

What tyres do you want to use? IMO get a set of wheels that you can get good tyres at a decent price. You'll probably find that low offset wheels are wide and need more expensive tyres.
What size wheels do you want to use? I use 16" & 17" depending on what tyres I need to use that day (dry or raining). My wheels range from stock offset to ET-38.

Ok well either size tbh. Your setup sounds good. Id rather stick to 16inch tho. IM not to bothered about the wider tyres being a bit more cash. Id happily spend it there as that's were it would be needed.

And most probably a road legal track tyre, unless of Corse any of you guys use road tyres that are good on track

Only you know how much you are willing to spend on tyres, for example Toyo R888's are around £650 a set for 215/40/17's , which is around the same price I would be willing to spend on new alloys
Have a look at http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ for ideas. Another good place for ideas is the MSA Blue Book (the regulations for most, if not all of British motorsport) they list what tyres fall into each category. While the categories are of little interest to you, it does show what tyres are used in motorsport / trackdays.

What I am getting at is that you dont want to buy a new set of alloys and then find out that the tyres within your budget are crap. Tyres over alloys IMO

Re: Wheel spacers & suspension
Here is some more advice:
increasing the track (through the use of wheel spacers) has the following effects:
*reducing weight transfer
*increasing load on the bearing
*increasing/decreasing scrub radius depending on the wheels used
The effects of weight transfer are going to be negligible because the change in track is going to be relatively small.
The increase of load on the bearing is also going to be negligible though it may reduce their usable life by a small amount. What will reduce their life more will be the increased cornering force available through the use of better tyres, but I still doubt you're going to be able to notice the effects.
The change to the scrub radius would be the only thing I be worried about, since predicting how it's going to affect the vehicle, e.g. torque steer, steering feel, etc. Are hard to predict.
In summary don't bother changing the track on purpose, if it is the consequence of fitting tires and wheels that you need then don't worry too much about the effects.

Thanks for that pal. IM going to be leaving the spacers, and sourcing some dedicated wheels.
