The further away the point of force (caliper squeezing) is applied from the centre of rotation (the hub) the greater the net stopping force.

Practical way to show it is to spin a CD and stop it twice. Once with your finger on the outside edge and once with your finger very close to the inside egde and see which takes the most effort

Not sure how it's related to leverage though. If the disc was 'levered' as such you'd end up with warped discs or the disc would just deform over time and this leverage would gradually become less effective?

I would've thought the amount of theoretically 'untouched' disc surface area would have more to do with it, i.e. better heat dispersion as more 'fresh' disc is available after braking from the outside of the disc, as the inside will heat up too quickly and be inefficient.

if your trying to remove a stubborn nut you go with a longer bar makes it easier to undo the same principle applies to moving a caliper further out with a bigger diameter disc there! long enough for you :lol:
