The 4th gen system was a piggyback on the main braking system anyway, so without it you still have a 100% complete functioning brake setup. It'll really come down to how friendly the MOT tester is

It seems that the back brakes do not work. On driving it the rust does not come off and the discs do not get hot. The car has stood for 5weeks and I never use the handbrake just leave it in park. would that have any bearing on the code? Obviously I am going to have to get the siezed brakes fixed.

I have code 1 as well (have had for a few years now) and basically your ABS pump can't build pressure to facilitate working abs. It could be the pump, the pressure switch, a sticky solenoid. So many things can all be this error - but sadly brakes being stuck is unlikely to be one of them. Worth a shot though, given you'll need to get them fixed anyway. Fingers crossed for you!

Well the brakes work now but still have the ABS light(I have a cunning plan for that!)
Here is what my local garage did:
Strip rear brakes and lubricate calipers slider clean front and rear brake discs. Check operation of all brakes on rolling road
£40+vat £8 total £48 car also collected and delivered in that price. Next time I wont let it sit for weeks without driving it!

Hey Paul,
That's fairly reasonable, Half what a new rear caliper would have been. So I take it the brake testing came up with some improved results then. Got your PM, I'll come round in the next couple of weeks to sort the ABS out. I'm on my hols this week, once I'm back and settled I'll pop round for a while. Cheers, Rob
