its stuck!!!!!!

Post by big damo » Sat Dec 28, 2013 5:45 pm

I have to change my gear box as it buggerd, after striping part of the engine bay and taking the wheels off I have hit a massive problem.

I have broken 2 snapon breaker bars trying to get the hub nut/crown nuts off have soaked them in wd40 and have also used a windy gun but they wont come off. Has any body got any idears, the breaker bars are 5 foot long sohave plenty of leverage

Please help

Have you bent back the side of the nut that's punched into the recess when it was fitted new?

One was so corroded once that I had to use a 3/4" or 1" drive breaker bar and a 4ft extension to get the nut off... they can be a pain!

Tried any form of heat? Or turning slightly in the opposite direction to break any seals?

Hammer and tightening them before loosening them helps.

Bludy hell mate, that sounds really bad!! Good luck with getting it unstuck!!

Why not leave the drive shafts in place? I undid the inboard suspension bolt, pulled the whole suspension assembly out and popped the driveshaft out the gearbox, I didn't even need to take the wheels off to do it! Is there any particular reason why you have to take the drive shafts out completely?

I would try air gun them. Wack them on do up and then undo. Keep alternating the direction in quick succession. This is the method we use and have never had a problem in the 100's we have done. Pretty crazy if ur breaking breaker bars tho!! :?
