4ws Help...code 20

Hi guys i'm have a few issues with the 4ws on my 5th gen.

Lent my car to a mate and its come back with 4ws light on the dash, now I've had a couple in the past probably caused by usual or heavy driving and generally turn the ignition off and back on and this has always cleared the code. But this one is on all the time.

So pulled the codes from the 4ws ECU and first code is 20 font main steering angle sensor, now I'm guessing this is the one on the steering wheel behind the airbag. Also a load of code 74, which where caused ages ago when I had a sticky handbrake light which would then intern set the 4ws off.

So I want to reset the 4ws ecu I've have run through the procedure here and I cant get the procedure to work properly, I start with the wheel to the right, turn on the ignition, wait for the light to go off (which it does) centre the wheel and the 4ws light comes back on but then doesn't mater how many times I try when I turn the wheel to the right again the ecu does not respond and the 4ws light stays on solid i.e failed to reset.

Now i'm thinking that if my steering angle sensor is knackerd then maybe this is why I cant do the reset procedure as the sensor is not seeing the wheel change position properly.

SO...does anyone know an alternative way of clearing the codes, unplugging the battery on the 5th gen does not work...

Also is there any way to test/probe the sensor and diagnose a possible fault...

I have had the same problem on my old UKDM blue Motegi car.. I changed ECU, reseted the 4WS million times and no luck. :( The only option left was to change the steering sensor behind the steering wheel, but I never had the chance to do that as I sold the car later on. :|

Simon, I have the sensor that I bought to put on the car. I was going to sell it on but if you need it then it's your for free.

the front main steering sensor is on the steering rack , the front main SUB steering sensor is behind the steering wheel...

ah ok so it is not the sensor on the steering wheel.... that changes things, so it cant be that which is causing the ecu not to reset..
