Fit new wheel now 4WS light

Post by crxdriver » Wed Apr 25, 2018 9:36 pm

I fitted a EP3 wheel today. All went smoothly. I dremeled the notch and made it pretty much perfect to the standard wheel with a template i made. SRS light is out, horn work. I drive the car 10ft and the 4WS light comes on. I can reset the 4WS so im assuming the notch is in the right place as you need to do the 45-65 deg to center thing to reset. When i pull the code i seem to get a different single code every time but they all seem to point to a front sensor. God knows why this is only happening after the wheel install. Have i missed something?

Codes pulled so far for reference:

20 Main Steering Angle Sensor Front 8,15 CU, FSSAS, FMSAS, HC
24 Main Steering Angle Sensor Front 8,15 CU, FSSAS, FMSAS, HC
28 Main Steering Angle Sensor Front 12 CU, FSSAS, FMSAS, HC

I bet if i carry on resetting the 4WS and pull more codes i get the other code 22 and 26 for the Front Sensor also. Any help or suggestions appreciated :D

Always might be just a simple coincidence. When the error is thrown, do you do alot of manevouring or get the code not matter what you do?

It happens right after i turn the wheel. Straight is fine i tried it in a car park. The light used to come on every now and again if i tried turning on the spot too much but always thought it was the resistance causing it. After i was careful not to turn on the spot it very rarely came on after that. Seeing as i only ever get the code for the front sensor at the moment im planning on replacing it and hoping it fixes the issue. In my opinion the car doesn't feel so nimble without the 4WS. I just need to find out where the sensor is so looking for a workshop manual currently. Thanks.

The truth is the car is terrible without 4ws.
Try checking front sub sensor first, your situation is very common. Look bellow a couple of threads, we discussed this issue already."(yet another 4ws thread")

Im pretty sure the sensor behind the wheel is ok as it lets me reset the 4ws so it must know the steering wheel angle.

I had a read through the thread thanks no0ne it gives me a few things to check if the rain stops tomorrow.

Its a bit of a weird one but i didnt drive the car for quite a few days and then yesterday i went on a 70 mile drive and no 4WS light at all. It seems ti have fixed itself. Maybe the Lude just needed a few days off.

Good news.
The Honda 5th Gen manual 4ws section was posted up recently on the forum by someone (it was the only section we didn't previously have).
If you get a fault code again, the best thing to do would be to follow the fault finding guide on that manual, against the relevant code.
