Does a 5th gen have a 4WS sub sensor?

Post by Lankysod07 » Wed May 30, 2018 8:08 pm

Heya guys,

I have been told that a 5th gen has a 4ws steer sub sensor, maybe located on the rear steering rack? Is this correct?

I was only aware of the following:

4WS steering angle sensor located front on the right hand side near the front steering rack

4WS sensor located when you take the steering wheel off.

4WS ECU located in the boot on the right hand side

4WS main sensor located on the rear steering rack, small square box in the middle under a protective usually rusted peice of metal.

What is the rear sub sensor, or this something just in 4G?

If it does exist, how do I remove it, does the steering rack have to come off to access?

Cheers in advance, help on this one would be greatly appreciated.

Check the 4WS threads of @no0ne and/or @AeroNotix

no0ne has the whole 5th gen 4ws manual - super rare, and aeronotix has done a crapload of diagnostic work in his thread.

Youre bound to find something in those threads

Sub sensors are both in front and rear racks. Both of them are in the middle of the racks.

Isn't there also a hardware/software link with the ABS system? (The 4WS needs to know how fast you're going so that it turns the right way.)

Yes, ABS and 4WS are connected. If ABS sensors die, 4ws also stops.
