205/45/16?

Post by Scott560 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 8:59 am

Doing a trackday next month and need some new tyres to get through the MOT before then (standard lude wheels take the 205/50/16)

Looking at a more track orientated tyre as i'll eventually get my Motegi 17s sorted with suitable road tyres.

But for now, trouble is, nankang NS-R2 dont come in the 50 profile , only 45 or 55.

anyone had experience of fitting either 45 or 55 profile tyres to the standard wheels? At the moment i'm quite lowered so worried 55 might rub (and increase gearing effectively), so looking at the 45s?

Any experiences welcome.

What about Federal 595 RSR's? They do them in 205/50r16...

Yeah i saw those / read about them also - was thinking the nankangs might be a bit cheaper...

annoyed that my uniroyal rain sport 3s have worn on the inner edges due to the camber by the lowering springs.

Will need to replace the suspension before the motegi 17s go on with expensive rubber otherwise they'll be shot in 7k..

They get good reviews from Merlin and GB-lude as well, and they generally are always a fraction cheaper than the Nankangs as well. The 205/50r16's are the same price as the Nankang 205/45r16's on Camskill.

I'll most likely be sporting a set of the Federals once my Rainsports are worn out.

I take that back. Got Michelin pilot sport cup 2 tires now and they are so much better.
Looking back at my video’s I was screetching and sliding all over the over the place on the Nankangs.

Spend a bit more, get Toyos or Michelins.
The new nankangs I don’t know. Might be better.

What about the Federal 595RSR's though Dave? Didn't you sport some of those for a while?

i realise the premium rubber commands the high price for a reason, but on a stock power h22a8 with no LSD, i dont think i need to splash out (ill save that for the 17s when they are refurbed).

i'll probably go for the federal simply because they are cheap but at the same time are track orientated - they will only be a temporary solution either way.

No never had the federals Nathan.. :)
but Scott, No matter what the setup is, your tire is the most importand thing on a car. With crappy tires you won’t have enough grip to use any kind of power, brake or corner.

I've ordered the federal 595 rsr's in factory size 205/50/16.

Slightly cheaper from ebay - already dispatched from Germany, hopefully here next week. Will check what tread wear/compound i get (not fussed if i get the harder 180s, mid 140s or softer 120s), they are only temporary.
