AEM 330MM Brake Setup

Post by Lankysod07 » Sun Aug 19, 2018 5:51 pm

I have purchased these AEM 330MM brake discs and carrier extenders and wondered what else I require to fit them onto my 5G, they are in good condition however, need a good cleanup before putting them on.

I am currently running stock 5G calipers however, I have also purchased the bigger ATR calipers.

I am running Motegi 17" wheels, whould these clear the setup?

Prelude calipers and atr calipers are the same size except the 1 piston and 2 piston design.

The carriers are a different size tho. Prelude being for 282mm discs and atr for 300mm discs. You can use either caliper but will need the right size carrier for the aem setup.

Unfortunately I'm not sure which carriers are needed but hopefully someone can confirm.

I would be interested to know if these fit under motegi wheels also. Maybe a option in the future if i decide i need better brakes for the track.

Looks like you have spacers for the pad carrier there?
If so and it moves the carrier bolt position out by 15mm (just measure hole centres on the spacers) then you should be fine to bolt up the ATR carriers and ATR calipers against these discs.
(I'm assuming the bolt spacing on the spacers matches the prelude/atr carrier and kuckle...)

Don't know if they will fit under the stock Motegi wheels, but to confirm that, all you need to do is measure the clearance between the existing caliper and inside of the wheel.
You'll need more than 28mm clearance between the extreme outside edge of the existing caliper on the car and the inside of the wheel (330-282mm) That would get the caliper inside the wheel but obviously with no air gap between rim and caliper (which you of course need, so you actually need more than 28mm gap, but you get the idea...)

Where did you find this lot btw?
Large discs are easy enough to come by, but carrier spacers aren't!

I bought another 5g up in bury st edmunds that had been sat in a garage for about 2/3 years under a load of boxes.

The discs and spacers were hidden in the boot along with many other hidden gems..

Thank you for the heads up tho, I was having a look at them and the ATR carriers and calipers should fit, but unsure on the wheels but I can source something other wheels to be honest. Ive had the Motegi's fitted some time now.
