MOT Failure !!

Post by K4MR411 » Wed May 16, 2012 9:26 pm

Yep, she failed :(
Im sure most of you guys in England dont get it as bad, but here in N.Ireland the MOT centres are complete B***b*gs. The MOT guy that i got was a stubborn, miserable wee b*****d!

According to the MOT guy, my P/S Spring was broken (which it was and i didnt know, until tonight)
AND... both front upper ball joints have "excessive play".

Im literally just back from the mechanics, and he checked the ball joints to find that nothing was wrong with them. So now i got to change them :x

My bushing (I think) has gone in the left rear control arm, and my exhaust is hitting off the right rear control arm and he didnt say anything about it, probaly didnt check it either. Ive got a 2WS subframe to do a conversion, so will change that when i get her through MOT.

Few Questions:

- Are there any other hondas that have the same spring as the prelude (5th Gen) i.e EK Civic?
- How much would i be expected to pay for ball joints?
- Should i buy the ball joints and upper arms?

ps. apologies for language

the ball joints on there own will be cheaper than buying the arms but obviously a bit more work removing the old balljoints and pressing in the new

Yeah i had a look at them. Would you know if they are good quality? Normally takes 2-5 days postage from the mainland

Yeah my mechanic mentioned about pressing them in. He recommended getting them with the arms, as they come pressed, ready to be bolted on. Plus he said they aren't expesive when both are purchased. I'm going to price them tomarrow and work out the cheaper option.

Mine failed exactly as i thought nothing wrong with them .....
When i opened up it had slight play u should able to feel it if u move it up or down

Sorry to bring this back up, but didnt want to start a new thread.

Does anyone know if the front springs on an ATR are the same as the prelude?
