MOT Advisories - Help!

Post by PreludePete » Mon Jun 03, 2019 11:48 am

Looking for some advice on how to deal with some MOT advisories on my 5th gen please!

Advisories. are:
*Play in steering rack inner joint(s) Offside Front

*Anti roll bar linkage pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement Nearside Front (split) [5.3.4(a) (i)]

*Same for offside front!

I am a bit mystified by the numbers in the brackets etc but presume they relate to an MOT check list???

What parts do I need and are these expensive repairs labour wise?

Any comments / help appreciated.

Pete

Your anti roll bar will either be the bushing that sits against the chassis or more likely the drop link. I buy cheap ones but they tend to split again after a few years, not sure how long decent ones last.
Both are cheap parts (you can pick up drop links for around £20 a side for budget ones) and easy to replace, should only be an hours labour for a mechanic.

Not sure on the inner joint, hopefully someone else can help with that.

Anti roll bar links

Inner steering joint

Steering joints are a pain to change. Track rod end off then inner. Car will need alignment done if you change it.

The issue won't be the time it'll take to replace, it'll be the time taken to strip/free-up what's currently on there. I did all of those jobs, and several more besides, on mine at Christmas, easily 60% of my time was getting things off that'd been on the car for 25 years!!

Don't be too surprised if the labour bill is higher than you expect for the reasons above.

Thanks guys!

Responses appreciated and I will try and get the jobs done at minimum cost!

Very hard to sell a car with advisories even if they are not really serious!
