New Honda Legend 4 piston calipers on a 4th gen Prelude

Post by DanishLuder » Wed Mar 18, 2020 4:50 pm

Hey guys. 8)

So I've been having this idea, to swap a newer version of the Honda Legend calipers onto my Prelude.
They are 4 piston calipers, and fairly cheap for what you get.
I havent given much technological thought to it, but just had the idea in my head, and wanted to see if anyone has tried anything like this?

They are roughly 225 pounds for a brand new 4 piston Brembo caliper on Autodoc:
https://www.autodoc.co.uk/brembo/7777688
(I notice they are out of stock - but I did find some used elsewhere.)

I notice the mounting holes are in different direction than that of the standard Prelude ones.
I'm not a big tech expert, so if anyone had any ideas or thoughts to as what should be made to make this work, please share them. :D

And to those who are interested.

I found this kit:
https://fatfourcustoms.com/shop/brake-c ... u4Gnk23YFE

Which is compatible with the Acura RL 2005-2012 Front 4 piston calipers, which are a direct bolt on.
Kit is 146£.
Calipers are roughly 170£ for a pair.

Excluding the cost of shipping and new pads/rotors - Thats a damn cheap big brake kit. :wtf:

What size discs would this use? Good find though.

Alright, so from what I can deduct from the internet, the Honda Legend KB1 and the Acura RL series both use the same design 4 piston aluminium brake caliper, only that the latter has "Acura" engraved on it. - More options for us. :D

From what I can also find, the rotors are to be either from a Nissan Maxima 2007, as they are 5x114,3 and the rotor is 320mm(12.6) in diameter and 28/30mm thick.
This just isnt easy to source here in Europe, I'm having trouble finding a decent pair for a decent price.

Another option, is to get rotors from a 2006 Nissan 350z - the brembo version. This is a 324mm(12.76) x 30mm rotor, with 5x114,3 as well.
A more viable option, as you can get decent ones for around 150-210£.
I'm just not sure if it can actually drive with these rotors - without me having to drill/machine some of it off.

Seeing as I have a 4th gen, and I have not made the 5 lug conversion - since I cant source all the different hubs and items, I will need it to be redrilled to 4x114,3 - still doable.

I messaged the guy on Instagram that make the kit, and he uses the 324mm 350Z discs, just said they need adapting, I would go for this setup, but I run 16" wheels on my 4th gen and prefer the ride and think it handles better, I think one day I'll just fork out for an off the shelf kit one day.
