Lude Generation

Evening guys,

It’s time to for me to get some new rubber, I was wondering if I could get some advice on what tyres you can all recommend? At present she is sat on Bridgestone Potenzas, 97’ Type S.

I got michelin sport very good in wet n dry

Got Yokohama Advan's on my Type S, excellent grip in the dry

. No idea about the wet as my car doesn't go out in the rain

michelin pilot sport 3's im running on the front, and when the rears need doing ill swap them for the same

Tyres nowadays are so good you are spoilt for choice. I use Yokohama Advan AD08R on both the Prelude and the S660. Excellent in most situations.
Tried the Pilot sport 4 on the prelude too. Great grip but not a sporty tyre.
On my van I have use pretty much every tyre imaginable including the new Goodyear assymetric 5.

The Assymetric 5 are one of the best cheaper premium tyres around.

I have assymetric2 and assymetric3 on My Lude at present.
I will change to assymetric 5 when needed.
I love these tyre's

After havings lots of cheaper/softer tyres, found some reviews and settled for michelin pilot sport 4 as the best all round tyre wet and dry for my motegis in 17inch.

previously uniroyal rainsport (3 i think), seemed fine enough but probably a little bit soft so wear out quicker.

federal RSR 595 for track wheels (16 inhc), these are a bit too hard for road use and not so good in the wet of course.

As Ratty so rightly said, we are spoilt for choice nowadays which is why I’ve been keen to hear what other Lude drivers are using. If I can remember how to unload photos then I’ll aim to put some up once I get round to getting the tyres sorted

Depends on how you plan to use the car and in what weather.
Echoing what other have already said, reputable brand tyres are good nowadays in general. Even some more budget brands do a very good job but you best do your homework on the specific tyre first.
Recommendation would be: For dry weather/trackday/speedy = Yokohama ad08r (Bridgestone also do varying degrees of street semi-slicks)
General quality driving (including in the wet)= Michelin pilot sport 4, Continental sportcontacts (Goodyear, Bridgestone all do good premium "sport" tyres also)
On a budget: Any standard tyre that is not from unkown brands, linglongs, landsails, dingalingdoos...

Tyre size also affects cost, handling and comfort so check out the sizes available for you. If you're running 17 inch wheel the most common sizes Prelude run are 215/40R17 and 215/45R17.

New tyres going on this Saturday

With what was available with the garage, I’ve narrowed it down to either the Yokohama Advan AD08R or Continental Premium Contact 6. Both sounds great tyres and have good ratings, the Yokohama certainly seems more specialist.

Has anyone tried the Continental Premium Contact 6?

Also, with the Yokohama’s, do they warm up quite quickly?
