4ws with a abs delete

Post by 4thgenphil » Mon Sep 21, 2020 11:27 am

My bb1, not the track one. The abs is knackered and I'm seriously considering deleting it (I have the proper valve already)

If I remove abs will the 4ws still work? I know they are tied in together to a certain extent.

I never liked the abs on preludes and it will be a little track focused so not overly interested in sorting ot

4ws with a abs delete

Post by Drax » Mon Sep 21, 2020 1:31 pm

i removed my ABS ecu a while ago (as it was popping up with a code) and my 4WS has been sketchy so i can't say if it will work - i have a 4WS error after 5/10 mins of driving each time now but could be just broken in general lol

i plan to try and fix my ABS in winter but if it's unsuccessful ill need to also know if 4WS still works or not, otherwise it's removing time for that as well :(

Ahh, ok.

I really want to keep 4ws on at least one of my preludes

I might just pull the abs ecu out and see what happens.
I could do with knowing before I pull the abs unit out whilst I stick the atr manifold on

4ws with a abs delete

Post by Vtecmec » Mon Sep 21, 2020 5:17 pm

You can delete the abs and keep 4WS.

2 choices:

Either keep the ABS ECU plugged in as the rear wheel sensors run through it before going to the 4WS ECU.

Or

Fit a non ABS 4WS ECU and reroute the rear sensor wires from the ABS ECU loom to the 4WS ECU loom.

If you look into the wiring diagram in the manual, it shows both setups for 4WS (with and without ABS).

Keeping 4WS gives you more hero points.

That 4ws error is because you don't have the abs ECU plugged in.

4ws with a abs delete

Doesn't the 4WD use the ABS speed sensor to know which way to turn?
I didn't know there was a non-ABS 4WS system, or is that only on Gen 4s?

The 4ws uses the rear abs speed sensors, for the front it relies on the gearbox vss.

I suspect all 5th gens came with abs, so probably a 4th gen thing?
