5th gen rear upper arm

Post by yorke58 » Tue Dec 22, 2020 4:48 pm

Hi!

I've made the mistake of removing the rear upper arm ball joints and lost the photo showing the orientation of the joints. The joints only allow up and down and no side to side movement.
I've added a picture to see if the position I think is correct. Any help or just to tell me I'm right would be great.

Cheers

I'm not sure i understand the question? Pictured is the left hand side upper arm - the single ball joint points down when installed to the meet the rear knuckle assembly. Here it is picture upside down (eg, from underneath its normal installed location)

The 2 linkage parts should stick upwards into the rear wing area into square holes. I don't believe they are handed, eg they can go back on either way. In the picture, they are 90degrees out of position, there will be no place in the inner wing for it to slot into - they should stick up into the rear of the car boot space.

picture from lings if that's any help:

I've taken the ball joints out of both arms. But the ball joints original don't spin all the way round. So if i fitted them wrong it could damage the ball joint I've added a picture to show you

The ball joint position is the same on either side of the car

cheers

Are there any marks on the other side of the arm / balljoint ? it might be caked up on the original arms, but the replacements online show an orientation mark:

and slightly visible here:

I can't imagine your far off with your estimate though. not sure if the original arms have a marking on them or not (I didn't see them when I did my suspension but they would have been caked in road crust  )

O yeah! I've missed it when cleaning the rust off and covered it in paint! Easily missed! If fitted like a normal ball joint it could cause a issue or 2!
Saved me a lot of time another forum win!

happy to help - didn't know they were there on the prelude, but saw them when researching tools to press out/in ball joints on the civic EP i sorted out for my mate.

PS, the ebay tools for pressing in and out balljoints are massively oversized - built for yank tanks no doubt, was quite a jigsaw puzzle to press in the civic joints with the big ebay kit, could have done with some smaller inserts.
