Quick Question Regarding Brake's

Hi all, I recently Sourced 5 stud Hub's for my 5th gen BB9 (4 stud) with callipers and Carriers but sadly the Hubs are too far gone with Rust. I've Pinched the Front Calipers for a 282mm upgrade, my question is an easy one... are BB9 Rear Disc's the same as 4th Gen VTEC Rear discs? The numbers seem incredibly similar but 4th Gen rear's are half the price of 5th Gen rears from MTEC (Want all rotors from the same company so they're drilled that way... I'm a sucker for symmetry  ) .

I appreciate the Reply

I believe they are different. If you look at the dimensions in the details on the pages you linked, it shows that the thickness and overall height of the discs differ. Which I'm presuming will make them incompatible.

Well that's a little annoying, But in all honesty I don't Track it so I think I'm going to get some Coated disks and Call it a day... Much Cheaper

I'd stick to normal stuff if you are not track day-ing it.

I've had both mtec drilled and grooved and currently on the mtec grooved only. (5th gen but ATR 300mm fronts)

Reason being that the drilled ones can crack if you get them too hot and don't cool them down gradually enough (they did last a fair few track days however). This then leads you to replacing them in pairs which gets more expensive. Also it's another thing to add to your list of weekly checks for your 21+ year old car (we are all checking our cars regularly I hope!)

The slotted ones actually end up making quite a lot of noise when braking is anything more than gentle. Made worse by harder pads , it's actually a bit annoying for a daily driver.

If anyone is finding the OE braking poor , chances are there are other parts that need attention first. If you are overheating the standard setup then you're driving too crazy...

Get the cheapest stuff from eurocarparts or ebay, and spend extra on all the rest of the bits that never get done.

Pity the 4th gen rear discs dont fit a 5th gen as i have a few sets bnib 4 stud 260mm. I would have thought they fitted ok as calipers&carriers are the same. Guess there must be a small difference in the hub. Got a few sets of 282mm 4 stud front discs as well if your going to fit the 282mm front brakes.

I use Mtec drilled and grooved discs with Mtec pads. I can't say there is any noticeable noise coming from them no matter the driving style, but I don't daily it nor do I go on track with that car. They are quite alright for occasional freaking insane driving. Maybe it's the pads that make the noise difference?

EDIT: hehe, I just noticed that s p i r i t e d is autoreplaced with freaking insane, nice touch

I noticed increased noise with ferrodo ds2500 pads all round, and even more noise with the PBS pads (Much harder).

You probably won't notice it if you have aftermarket exhaust, it will drown it out. Poly bushes also probably amplify the sound transmission in my case.

I did exactly this and found out the hard way that the 4th gen rear discs from MTEC don't fit on the 5th gen!
