Wheel refurb question

Post by macky_6 » Wed Jun 06, 2012 7:48 am

I have a set of wheels i want to DIY refurb which have a diamond turned lip & edge on the spokes.

Like this:

How easy would it be to polish up the silver which is pretty badly marked/corroded?

Alternatively, would it be better to sand then paint the lip? Maybe colour match the car or just go all black? Or even carbon wrap the lip/edges?

By the way, the black part of the wheels are in excellent condition and don't need touched.

These are gonna be my winter wheels so perfection is not going to be the goal, cheapness is

I am on night shift this week so please leave loads of suggestions for me to mull over when i get up

Thanks all :D

PS, they will be going on my S which is Nordic Mist (silvery/blue)

They need Machine cutting back. I never touch diamond cut wheels and refer them onto a cutting specialist.

This. I need to get the lips on my wheels done, I've been quoted £60 a corner.

DIY, that is the name of this game ;)

Not spending £60 each on these, i would rather bin them

So, do you think the painting/covering option would work??

you could take some wet and dry paper to all of the diamond cut aluminium and polish it up to a mirror finish..

Like others have said maybe a bit of a sand then a polish. Perhaps a drill fitted polishing wheel off Ebay (a couple of quid) and some cutting fluid or machine polish?

I'd give it a go since they may be going in the bin.
