ABS code 51 + 53... :( Advice?

hello guys,

Ok well I used to have an intermittent ABS light being thrown, first once a week, then every other day / journey etc... Recently it had been on constantly, apart from one occasion after some motorway driving and heavy braking when it decided to go off?.

Now when I check the codes it has 51 - Motor Lock, and 53 - Motor Stuck ON.

I also seem to have a slightly warped disk I think as when you heat the brakes up too much you will hear a rubbing noise from one of the front wheels which then goes away. Could this have interfered at all?

Any advice would be great! I have found this guide which I will show to my mechanic when I finally get some money together :(... http://www.preludeonline.com/f60/5th-ge ... lp-268505/

Thanks, William.

Been doing lots more research and if this seems to point to needing a new ABS pump will I need to get the accumulator too? (no idea what that it)

The accumulator is the chamber that the pressurised brake fluid is stored in. Not sure if you'll need it or not, as I'm not familiar with the 5G ABS system.

It could be the abs pump relay sticking on - have come across that before

hello all,

Thanks for the help. My mechanic seems to think that the ABS ECU isn't sending enough voltage to the relay to activate the pump and suggests a new ECU. He also seemed the think that the ECU was built into the pump so I would need a new pump anyway, anyone able to clarify if the ECU is built into the pump as I seen to have seen both parts for sale separately from breakers / ebay?.... if they are separate then where is teh ECU located?

THANKS!!!

ECU is in the back drivers quarter in the 4G, behind the interior trim panel. The 5G bible should show you the location in the 5th.
