4th gen rear wheel steering track rod ends

Post by wurlycorner » Thu Jan 10, 2013 10:49 pm

So to my surprise, I was told by a jap motor factors that these are main dealer only (fronts readily available).

 thought I and googled.

Most useful results were posts on here, where there was similar discussion and a post saying someone thought vtecmec had succesfully used Mk1 Vectra track rod ends and then someone saying they'd tried that and it hadn't worked.

Can anyone shed any further/more recent light on this by any chance???

Hi mate, that was me..

Still having problems with this, although I suspect that vetecmec was right, and the tit I bought the Vectra track rod ends from sent me the wrong fekking ones!

I have the measurements somewhere for the internal thread-size of them (M10 - 1.5mm I think, but don't quote me!) - I'll see if I can dig them out when I get in from work and let you know for sure..

I'll be trying another set of Vectra ones soon if you want confirmation, but it'll be a couple of weeks..

Cheers
Doug

From memory, I think the internal thread is M14 x 1.5mm.

I'll double check later.

Measured it today (diameter, didn't bother with the pitch considering I was lying under the car in the near pitch dark!) and it is indeed M14.

So I've ordered 2 of these

Will post up if they fit ok.

Thanks - they've been delivered and look ok, but I'm not getting out there to try fully fitting them in the snow! :D

I successfully fitted the Vectra B track tod ends to the the rear of my 5th gen Prelude last week.

Vauxhall Vectra B Track Rod End

Image

- Comparison -
The internal and external thread diameter and pitch is identical. The dimensions of the Vectra B track rod end are slightly different from the Prelude one, being a little taller and 5mm shorter to the centre of the joint, although I didn't notice if they screw in any further on the inner track rods. The other main difference is the Honda track rod end has holes drilled in the external thread for the cotter pin to go through, whereas the Vectra B unit uses a Nylock nut instead. I have taken measurements and side by side pictures I will post when I get around to it.

Overall they fit very well, have caused me no problems and being just under £5 each makes the Honda track rod ends about 18 times the price in the UK!?! :o :o

Again massive thanks and rep to @Vtecmec for saving me more than £150 with this tip! 8-)
