Lude Generation

So the other week, a mate who was driving behind me commented how much my exhaust moved about. I just shrugged it off thinking it normally did.

Tonight though, I found out why!

The hanger that is behind the back box has rusted at the mounting point on the chassis and has come clean off!!

The end....

Which means my exhaust is now this close to the ground......



From what I can tell, this isn't a bolt on bolt off part. So can it be welded back on, or is the metal too far gone?

Anything can be fixed man. Worst case might be welding a plate in then welding a hanger to that?

Next point, I was going to be doing a sprint day this weekend.....still OK to do?

Hmm, I think I'd maybe leave it. The exhaust is clearly not hanging correctly, I'd be worried about something else breaking.

Mine had done the same thing, you can either clean the area up and re-weld to the body if there is sound metal, or get a small plate weld it to the hanger and plug weld that back on the car.

The only issue is a lack of room, so you might have to strip quite a bit away to get good access, and that it sits 3 inches from the fuel tank.

So you can visualise.....

Mine had also done a similar thing.

Just got some metal, looped it around the exhaust, then pushed it up and held it while a mate welded it to the nearest bit of body metal.

Welding shouldn't be that difficult to do, (for someone that's done a bit) Gayno, do you live anywhere near hull?

Adam, take it up to Infinity Exhausts (http://www.infinity-exhausts.co.uk/), he'll patch that up in 5 minutes for some beer money. Not a big fan of the metal that has been welded on to the exhaust for the hanger either though.

He's a skilled fabricator, fixed my wifes stainless steel candle vat (big unit and issues with it).

Which day and time is the sprint? Could you go see him in the week or first thing Saturday morning? Oh and call him first to let him know you're coming, he can get busy some days and you could end up waiting around.

At least it's the bit that's on the car that's snapped, not the bit on the exhaust pipe - cos that's not the bit I did!

Should be a fairly quick job to tack it back onto the body as noted.
