ABS Warning Light - 4th Gen 2.0 16v 1994 HELP

Help please,

I have 4th gen 2.0 16v UK lude in standard trim (no mods) with an ABS issue ................ warning light comes on after driving about 50m .... know this is now an MOT issue and so need to resolve ............ have got a troubleshooting guide with "blink" codes, all sounds "simples" ... so have broken my neck trying to locate what I think is the service check connector hidden up under central console under the radio, one white connector, one orange connector. followed the instructions on the troubleshooting guide, connected a jump wire and to my surprise .... nothing, no blinking at all ??? so cant trace the source of my problem !!

So my questions are ............ are the connectors I have found the right ones ? which one should I be jumping, if the problem turns out to be a wheel sensor rather than the modulator how easy are they to change? I know the sensors are different for each wheel because of the wire loom but can anyone tell me if the same sensors are used on all 4th gen preludes, (ie are they interchangeable between versions), can I salvage some from a 2.2vtec ? cos the 2.2vtec seems to be more abundant at the breakers/on ebay than the 2.0 16v model I have ??

Also have an issue with my dash digital clock ...... minute adjustment no problem but when the switch is turned to adjust hours the display doesn't stop when switch is released so hour display just keeps changing on its own until it decides to stop, which is never at the right time !!! .... can I get the switch and how easy is dash removal to replace switch ???

Does anyone have a 4th gen they are breaking with the parts I need ??

Many thanks for reading this, any help would be much appreciated

Welcome to LG, enjoy your stay.

2 pin blue connector is what you need.

once you have found the sensor that is the problem, i have abs sensors, £15 each posted. also you would be best off buying a second hand clock.

mine was still clipped to the dash structure on my 4th gen.

Hi,

ABS sensors are interchangeable between different engines on the same generation lude (so yes, a sensor from a 2.2 4th gen would fit yours, for example).

Sounds like you haven't found your service check connector yet unfortunately. Keep looking? There will be one.
If you have a multi-meter you could always just unplug each sensor and bell them out anyway to find if any are knackered? Be careful when you unplug them, the plugs are stiff so it would be easy to overstress the cable and damage one that wasn't actually damaged if you're not careful!

The clock is an integral part of the main dash section I think. Either way that section would have to come out to get to it anyway so as already suggested just get a complete replacement (cheap enough). Have a look in the parts for sale section, I'm sure there's some available already. If not there are at least a couple of members breaking 4th gens atm so if you have a quick look on their threads and drop them a pm I'm sure you'll have one pretty quickly.

Was on the passenger side in my 5G, not sure if it's the same for 4G, maybe someone with a 4G can confirm.

When I used Google the results that came up said drivers side, but these were on US forums/LHD cars.

On mine it's clipped to a metal frame, just behind the radio in the centre.

Always found mine from looking up via the drivers side footwell.
But if it's meant to be in the middle, that could just be co-incidence that that was the first side I looked from

check your brake bulbs or fluid level anything can trip the abs light
