5G~4G Suspension Interchangeability

Post by mynameisowen » Sun May 05, 2013 12:16 pm

Hi guys, looking for some help and information. You can read the background in this post:
http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/honda-p ... t7225.html

Essentially I have a 5G VTi 4WS which I've crashed. I'm looking at the possibility of swapping the front suspension of a donor/scrapyard prelude to replace my damaged components.

Currently the passenger front wheel has too much positive camber and the drivers side wheel is toe'd out when other wheel is straight. Not great hey?

There are 2 4G preludes in my local scrapyard and I was thinking about swapping out the entire front suspension system + steering rack from the 4G and putting it in my 5G.

I want to know is this possible. I've heard the suspension is interchangeable between the 2 but need to know for sure. I think to start with the knuckles are different since 5G is 5 Lug and 4G is 4Lug no?

Please clarify for me.

The shocks are inter changeable, that's it I think.4g is 4stud, 5g is 5 stud.5g's also have a wider track.

I have 5g I'm breaking but its a 2.0 (4 stud) so I'm not 100% what you could.use of mine. I presume the steering rack will be the same.

check where the problem is with your suspension it may only be in the subframe in which case robs subframe will be all you need

Thanks guys.

The problem is I'm not sure. I've put new wheels on and it's still off. The damage to the suspension will have been from hitting a kerb dead on so its one big input which could've bent components.

I dont understand what it is on the left hand side with crappy camber since the upper and lower arms (that control camber) look fine. Unless the knuckle itself is bent but I find that hard to believe.

The right side with the toe-out I think must be caused by tie-rod or steering rack damage but again they look OK on inspection.

I was thinking of swapping the entire front suspension so:
*knuckles inc. brakes
*control arms
*spring/shocks
*and probably steering rack/tie rods

Are these interchangeable with a 4G?

@4thgenphil

^ might know, IIRC he's swapping over loads of 5G stuff to his 4G. If it goes one way surely it'll go the other?!

the 5g has a wider front track, I am not sure if the difference is in the arms or the subframe. The front upper control arms are not interchangeable. I am not sure about the steering rack as already said the track is different the track rod ends have a different thread pitch if I recall correctly.
springs and uprights will swap over but you will have the stud difference.

Back to the subject in hand?
