Sticking Brake?

Hi guys,

My passenger side front brake has started to squeak and stick.

At first I thought the caliper was sticking but after jacking it up and spinning the wheel it sticks/catches at the same point every time so I thought the disc could be warped but there is no vibration when I brake.

This has me stumped as my limited understanding is sticking caliper would equal wheel sticking all the time or at random and that a warped disc would cause vibration when braking especially as it's the front.

Any ideas what it could be or any other checks I could do to start narrowing down the issue?

sounds like uneven pad wear - take the pads out and check them

Wouldnt uneven pad wear make it stick constantly?

When were the discs last off?

Had them off a few weeks back to have a look and make sure everything is moving as it should.

It's gotten worse since then, didn't notice anything odd about the pads.

The only way you are going to know is by pulling it to bits again and have a look. One component will not be working right. Compress the piston as well this time to check if it is free moving, it might be that.

How free should it be? Last time it was off it took quite a bit of force to wind it back in using a caliper tool.

One of my rear ones was a right git to get wound back in but it went. I wasnt using a wind in too though. IMO if the sliders are moving freely and the pads move in the carriers, it pretty much can only be the piston.
