Suggesting that "...four-wheel steering ... deserves the same recognition as ... the advent of the microchip" might have been taking it a bit too far!

The great Setright once wrote:
The best example of an additive safety system, one that enhances the car's accident-avoidance ability, was the active four-wheel steering of the Honda Prelude. Shallow-brained salesmen did not know how to sell it, so Honda does not make it any more.
He believed that as the rear wheels have to help steering in any car, in that there is always some play, which allows for lateral movement however small, and that the wheel speeds have to differ across the axle, you might as well make the steering assistance active.
Fair point?

Superb stuff from the late, great Setright. His columns in 'Car' were always well worth reading. A little convoluted sometimes but my God, he knew his stuff. Russel Bulgin was another great writer for 'Car', his stuff was more approachable than Setright's but just as involving.
