How did he know to stop?

Who, the first guy?
If you watch further on in the video, it replays everything from earlier.
The first truck guy stopped because the car on the right hand side was stopped broken down after running over the tree (that's what all the mess is all over the road, camera side of the tree - I guess it's ripped the sump and rad off).
As to why he'd stopped, I think over there, people generally do stop if they see someone broken down, because the distances between nearest towns are so vast - the selfish 'not my problem mate' attitude in most countries these days, doesn't exist over there.

What happened to the woman's car? Surely that got taken out by the lorry

Actually watching that again there is no way the lorry didn't hit her car. Last time we saw her she was standing on the road. Where did she go? It's not as if there was any safe place for here to stand.
*Not pictured, woman and car kersplatted!"

If they had been splatted, I'm sure the beeb wouldn't have put the film up. I reckon they jumped into the bushes (oo-er missus). I was wondering about what happened to her car, too.

And the first chap speaks to her again after the truck has passed.
