It's up to 6 grand now. I only paid 7 for a fresh import from Torque GT :shock:

The guy at the dealer must have picked that up for a steal, from a customer. Great find.
Not sure why he's posted a pic from before the rear brakes serviced?

Still worth the asking price, even if it goes around £7k. :thumbup:

It's missing the Type-S badges.
So that is minus £6k immediately...

@ATR84

@nitin_s1

I'm quite taken by this car. Have you guys (or anyone else) managed to find anything else out about it?

I was on here previously by the way, but no idea what email address I used, so I haven't been able to reset my long-forgotten password.

Is the Type S going to be more of a potential nightmare due to its rare ATTS and active ABS systems? I guess these are all old cars now, probably usually need something attending to as part of ownership. But then the trade-off is that there is nothing quite like it any more. Even the Civic Type R is now turbocharged.

@texasjohn74

As far as Honda was concerned, the Type S was the top model in the Prelude range.

From my point of view, the only other one that comes close is the Sir S Spec which Nitin has, because it still has the 217bhp engine along with an LSD. All other Preludes do not have the engine in the same state of tune as the Type S and S spec.

In terms of reliability, I have heard that the ATTS can be a problem if it goes wrong, there are however specialists who could deal with it. It didn't put me off buying one. To be honest, if you are willing to spend £6k or more on a Prelude I would have a chat with Torque GT about importing one, my Type S was £7k from them as a fresh import just last year. That way, you will get a rust free example and a 6 month warranty to iron out any problems.

When I bought it I didn't see it as an investment, but something that I had always wanted to own. I love the fact it is rare and I hardly see another Prelude on the road, let alone a Type S.

@RattyMcClelland will give you a good honest, long experienced opinion of ATTS. You'll have to bear in mind that his is a highly tuned Type-S though, and "tuned" and "ATTS" don't mix.

Thanks guys. I felt the example linked on eBay seemed like a really good car, although the exhaust system looks like it might be soon due for replacement.

The low mileage and Honda Service History (until it was laid up) was attractive. As for keeping rust at bay, I have a garage and wouldn't use the car in the rain anyway. I don't think I would be planning to modify the car.

I will have a word with the importers, but once we get to £7k and above, other (newer) VTEC cars come into play of course.

Do they?... :eh:

;)

You're not going to pick up an FD2 for under £10k ;)

For a fresh import DC5 you are looking at £10k-£11k, so an extra 3 or 4 grand. When I decided on the Prelude I had actually gone to Torque GT to view a DC5 and the Prelude, and seeing them both side by side, there was just something about the Prelude that drew me too it. I have owned a DC5 previously as well as an Accord Type R and several 4th gen Preludes so I just appreciate all vtec Honda's to be honest. You can't go too far wrong with any of them :D
