Hmmm, I know the car only had to drive a few meters but I highly doubt its real..
No radiator, or hoses, and theres no chance the connexted up the driveshaft!
My guess is there is an engine in the back and this is just for entertainment only

That belt change is pretty cool, shame it wouldn't be possible on a lude. Very clever videos though!

It was on record breakers and the records were independently verified, so it would be pukka meeting the rules they said at the beginning, i.e. it did drive itself forward.
You're right though, obviously it doesn't have cooling in it/connected up and they must have altered the engine mounts and not torqued them up etc. but there must be at least one driveshaft connected up so it drove forward under its own steam. No oil in gearbox either, for that reason I bet. But hey, it worked and was fun!

They've been doing it for years with Minis as part of the Royal Tournament.
There's obviously a few tricks. And no seized exhaust bolts...

i think that is a bit suspect about the engine change one. drive shafts lower crossmember for the front engine mount. gear rods electrics. fuel lines and whats with the bonnet being placed on.

i think they would have just keept the gearbox in 1st and as the engine is tuned over is just goes forward?
and a mega quick driveshaft connetion as the engine is being lowerd in ?
all that would need to be plugged in is the ecu loom and the throttle body to be jammed halfway ?
thats the only way i think this is possible ?
ohh and for the engine mounts... the bolts must of been slid in and thats it !

Gear linkages on that kind of thing should be really simple? My sunny has one rod that attaches to the back of the box with one bolt dropping through it, so that all seems perfectly do-able to me (again without doing any nuts up etc).
Strikes me the fuel would be the most difficult thing actually... That would have had a mechanical fuel pump and carb, so there's no way you could connect up the fuel lines and get it to go like that. Reckon there must be a small fuel reservoir mounted on the back of the engine?
Either way, the old engine comes out, a new one goes in and it does drive the car forward, so it's still an impressive feat.
(did they remember to notify the dvla about the new engine number though?

)
