No good for most paint, but still great on oil and dirt, plus the new 'hands that do dishes' safe formula means it does not melt plastics and rubber so easily, I managed to do a spark plug cover recently, took a while but all the paints gone and the plastic is ok.

not sure if anybody mentioned it but phosphoric acid is the business when it comes to cleaning cast aluminium parts in an engine. mix correctly and be careful.
