How did you get on with your polishing toadster?

In the bright sun today my Prelly is looking horribly swirly. As I live in a house on double yellow lines I don’t tend to wash my car myself but I’m not sure getting a hand car wish and polish is really going to achieve much so I’m left with getting the car professionally detailed (just been looking at prices

) or trying to find somewhere I can take the car to properly polish it myself. So I wondered how you got on, pretty well judging by the pics you put up the other day.

Mine has loads of swirls too

I think our colour does tend to show up everything

I got on better with the Autoglym polish.
I think you need a DA polisher or get it machine polished.
I did get mine done in Norwich a few years ago and it did look great but I can't remember the cost.

Cheapest place I have found so far is £195! If it weren’t for the cost I’d get it done like a shot.

A heavy filling glaze like Prima Amigo will help hide the swirls. Easy to apply and buff off.

Something a bit leftfield is Soft99 Scratch clear, just apply and keep buffing until if dissapears without hazing, it fills scratches and swirls. Only a temporary solution, but this stuff works surprisingly well.

Thanks Shiny. Might give the Amigo a go. I know a friend who might have a DA polisher and who certainly has a nice big driveway so I can see a day coming up of just trying to get the paintwork looking decent before Beaulieu.

Would you suggest prepping the car before using this (other than just washing)?

Definitely clay it before polishing. If you've many tar spots, use some tar remover prior to claying too.

Will probably be polishing the car tomorrow so I'm a bit limited for choice re what polish I can lay my hands on by then. Everyone seems to like the Autoglym Super Resin stuff, is this suitable for using with a DA polisher?

My plan was a quick wash (car is actually clean at the mo but gets very dusty in my road, so mainly to get that off), G3 Clay Mitt, then polish with DA polisher using the Autoglym polish, then wax. I have some Triplewax Diamond which is Carnauba wax so hopefully good. Hopefully it's not too sunny tomorrow. Never really done this before. Wish me luck, I'm going in.

I’d probably favour the Meguiars Ultimate Compound or Ultimate Polish if using a DA.

Panels will need to be cold though.
