REVIEW - Autobrite Direct Black Magic

Post by nick_s » Sun Apr 20, 2014 8:51 pm

WHAT IS IT, AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
Black Magic Carnauba Wax is one of the 1st Carnauba Wax blends we created. We wanted to create a wax that is ideal for darker colours such as gloss and metallic black bringing our the stunning shine and depth within the paint.

Black Magic provides a combination of outstanding finish and longevity. Every pot is both hand-made and hand-poured to ensure consistent high quality. Whilst specially developed to give supreme performance, Black Magic is also very easy to use and will buff off with little effort. Suitable for both demanding car lovers and first time users the waxes are without compromise yet still fall within the budget of most consumers. Each wax is suited to a different application:
Black Magic Carnauba Wax is a premium wax for darker colours. Just like the rest of the Autobrite wax range Black Magic is hand-made and hand-poured from the finest ingredients. Black Magic will deliver an outstanding gloss and depth of shine to your paint and provide excellent durability. Black Magic has a Chocolate fragrance so this product is very nice to work with!

Simply apply thin coats in straight lines and allow to cure for approx 2-4 minutes before gently buffing off with a soft microfibre cloth for that outstanding finish!

  • Outstanding Finish and Longevity
  • Hand Made & Hand Poured
  • Ideal for Darker Colours
  • Made From The Finest Ingredients
  • Provides Excellent Durability
  • Chocolate Scented Making It Great To Work With!

APPLICATION METHOD AND DESCRIPTION:
Well, I used a very soft foam applicator (lightly dampened), but applied in small circles). I did the bonnet first, then buffed to check the cure time (approx 3-4 mins), seemed a like it needed a little longer so I reverted to a 'do two panels, buff the first, apply to third and buff second etc' method. Worked well for me.

KEY NOTE: I applied this to washed paint. There was no real prep involved, bar an application of Cherry Glaze a week ago. I washed and dried the paint and applied.

CONCLUSIVE COMMENTS:
Well, I have to say, it's easy on, easy off. It gives me a finish I am over the moon with, at a price I am more than happy with. An added bonus is that it helps to hide a multitude of sins as the above photos show. There is a scratch down my passenger side where some *insert expletive here* keyed the car. Black Magic has used some form of voodoo to help mask it to some degree (in truth, it'll likely be the colour charging of the wax). The finish overall is wet and glossy, something I was hoping for when I bought the wax. I like the scent (it's not Terrys, it's mine!) of chocolate orange, I like the oily nature of the wax. One key thing for me is how easy the wax is to get out of the pot, the mouth of this pot is plenty big enough for just about all applicators.

I'll keep you all posted in terms of durability.

It's a 8-) from me.

WOULD YOU BUY IT AGAIN?
Sure would! For £35, it is a bit of a dark horse in the wax world.

Just wanted to ask..

What is the best way to get your car looking shiny for a show which is on Sunday?? Tomorrow will be raining all day so can't apply polish/wax.. :|

I can try and quick snow foam the car > Rinse > Clay (I have Merguair's clay started kit) > Wash again...

And when I get to the show on Sunday I can apply quick detailer there? I have never used a quick detailer before so is it good to use on a car that has just driven 30mins on Motorway to get to the show with all dirt from the fast motorway..

What do you recommend? advice?

Just go steady with clay Nitin, Honda paint is so soft that some clay can really mar the paint which will need a machine polish.

The Meguiars clay is quite mild so you should be OK.

As for the show, a decent quick detailer and a soft microfibre cloth should be ok. There is a risk of micro scratching from the dust, but that is only really a worry if your paint is scratch free.

Another option is to take some rinseless/no rinse shampoo made up in a spray bottle and carefully clean the car with that before you wipe over with a quick detailer.

I'll second Lloyds suggestion of a rinseless wash (Optimum No Rinse is one good choice) then a good QD for a bit of gloss and what not. Of course, if the paint is clean, you could always wax on site.

Clay can marr, but the Megs clay is relatively mild. Just ensure you use plenty of lube (there is no such thing as too much lube), then wash again prior to either polishing or topping up with your LSP of choice :)
