Rustler's archburgers

Short story: A numpty reversed into rear quarter this morning, a few inches from the door so not on the arch itself, but regardless the whole quarter will now need attention as it has somewhat err... disturbed the rust I already had and made it a more pressing issue to sort. Basically the dent and deep scratches cannot be sorted without paint, and you can't paint over rust. So the silver lining is that my rust repair bill will be footed by someone else.

I need to get a few quotes and then money will change hands for an agreed reasonable sum so I can get the work done. I don't have time to traipse around various body shops for assessments and quotes, plus I'm fairly sure where the work will be done after almost all the people that I've asked in my area have all pointed me in the same direction (but I am getting a quote from said shop, just need something to gauge it against).

My question is, what prices have some of you paid for a single arch repair (or pair I suppose), that is rusty jobby cut out, fresh stuff in etc.?

Assume it's Prelude gold standard rust (like it's been living in the Dead Sea). Doesn't have to be Rolls Royce quality as the rest of the car is far from mint (and I'm aware prices can vary wildly). Just after a price expected for an acceptable but competent job.

I recently did an awful job on my rear bumper( pics coming) if you want i can make it worse for a high price?

poor luck though.... And then awesome bonus! As much as i hate insurance companies i love it when people benefit from them in a good way.

Thanks nitin. :)

I have an idea yes, duckface. I prewarned them that it would likely be around/upwards of the 500 mark as that was the rough figure I had in my mind for one side and they didn't seem shocked. Luckily they're a regular customer at work and own another business we supply, so they're good for it. I made it clear I wanted to avoid going through insurance for the reasons you said, given the book value of these cars it'd probably be close to write off territory. They were very reasonable about it and understanding of the situation and tbh they could've gotten away with it as I wasn't even in the car/couldn't see it either. Probably did myself a favour by not going apeshit and acknowledging that it was an accident and accidents happen, although how this happened I don't know - a black car in broad daylight isn't hard to spot, especially when you're parking next to it. :?

We'll see how it goes when I can come back to them with a price, but I think it will be okay.

That moment when they came into the office... "Do you know who owns that black Honda?'

But yes what I'm after is just a rough figure that people have paid so I don't have to body lemonade about with too many bodyshops. One of the first I tried said that I'd need to book it in (and pay for their time) for a proper look followed by "well how much do you want to spend?" :tosser:

That's pretty cheeky of them!! The owner of the body shop I use came to my house after work to give me a quote when I needed work done on my Accord :)

At any rate sorry to hear about your car mate. I've got rusty rear arches coming out my arse atm but I've not been brave enough to get any quotes yet

ive been quoted 350 for new arch in, flattened, filled and repainted covering whole quarter panel. ;) think I need to source the clean cut off arch for replacement though.

Remember Donalds car needs new outer arch and repair to the inner arch on each side as well (because the inner arch is rusty) so it's not just a replacement outer wing job.

 Yep inner arch on the damaged side definjtely needs doing, forgot to mention that. It would be foolish to think it's not in the other side even if not apparent.

But we are talking one side at the moment and I'm not sure it's as simple as just halving the cost of two.
