Hi guys, woke up to find a huge cracking in my windscreen, I phoned my insurance who will replace it but the guy I spoke to said il have to pay for the new trim. Which he recons is about 200 for the kit. I'm pretty sure I read some where if you buy the fith gen glass it comes as a unit and will fit in a fourth gen. Can anyone confirm this. All help appreciated as always.

That doesn't sound right. If it is going though the insurance the policy should be covering the cost if it is part of the replacement process. I'd phone your insurance company again and tell them.
I doubt anything to do with the windows are interchangeable.

The glass is certainly different between 4th and 5th gens, however it's became apparent recently that the trim of a 5th gen does in fact fit a 4th gen and is superior. There's a thread about it somewhere, I'll see if I can dig it out.
I'm sure some members that have had windscreens replaced through insurance have managed to get a new trim as well (When they're asked for it), but then some others have had the existing trim re-used, only later to find it never actually goes back again properly.
Definitely insist on fitting a new trim, but an insurance company could have an arguement to say they're only "replacing" the glass.

As a general rule, Windscreen trims are only replaced under insurance if they can't be re-used. If they can't be reused, they are covered as part of the works, you only pay the standard excess.
However, it is entirely down to what your insurance company policy says - they may exclude covering trim replacement under all circumstances. Check your policy booklet.
