Do they really work?
Are they any good?
Are there any tips specific to using these?
Any examples of an edge done with one and the other?
I've seen tapes from 3m and j-tape. Anyone got any experience with both/either?
Suggestions on where to buy?

I use 3m soft edge tape.
I use it virtually on every job 3 times a day. On swage lines, door shuts, boot shuts and design lines where im painting too.

It's not idea for color on the outside of the car on swage lines as color has to be blended. But is used on lacquer to create a soft edge that polishes out.

You can't see the joint if done properly so it won't photograph.

Masking tape, with a third folded onto itself is a technique I've used often for soft edges. Works really well.

That works well on straight edges.
On curves it's a pita.

The soft edge works well on this swage and the door handle recess edge.
