Rough cost for rear arch fixing ...?

Yeah, I know, how long is a piece of string?
My rear arches are finally beginning to show their age. Nothing's through yet, but definitely starting to look a bit scabby.
Went to see a guy today, top-notch sort of fellow, currently restoring a 1965 911 from the ground up. He quoted me £500 a side.
A touch pricey, I thought. What would folk expect to pay to tidy up, perhaps a blob of filler here and there, and spray to match?
A grand is just not worth it given the value of the car, but I'd rather it didn't disintegrate just yet.

I'd say that's at the lower end of the range you'd expect for a decent job.
EDIT:
Sorry, misread. No idea. But for that money I'd have thought you'd expect new metal at least.

I've heard plenty on here say they've paid £500 for both arches, but I don't know the extent of the repairs.

I'd say, if the inner arches need work too (likely) then about 5 hours a side weld and panel plus paint.
So.......
Say@ £50/hr = £500 panel work + £300 per side paint (more if blending required). £1,100 all in.. Though that's being conservative........

Depends on if new metal is welded in of just sanded back and filled and depends on color. Give me a silver car and I will only sissy the whole side on each panel to properly match it.
£1000 all in for new metal £600-800 for a sand and full all on a side each arch only.

Will's 4g arch repair (both sides) cost;
£250 delivered for replacement arches from Cebul
£5-600 for the work of cutting out the old ones, welding and blending in the new ones plus colour match
around £750-850 total.

It's a pricey job to have done properly, but then what's the point of not? No point spending a couple of hundred on it just for it to appear again in a couple of years tops and be disheartened again.
Can understand that puts it out of doable spending for some, but I still think in terms of what the car is worth
to me.
Say it costs a grand to sort, but then you've piece of mind and enjoy the car again. Or, you flog it, or break the car, giving yourself what, £1500 to play with instead? (as opposed to the fix). What do you buy for that, that wont need similar attention due to age anyway and will be as much fun? 90% of affordable modern(ish) cars are boring and sh1t. End of.
The days of worrying about resale value are long gone IMHO, though in another 5-10 years it'll probably be a consideration again.

Agree with those sentiments, think my bill for sorting one rusty arch and bootlid respray was around £750, (granted they f'd up the colour match, to be sorted), time will tell the quality of the repair.

bennyboy has summed it up perfectly
Only thing i can add is that when i enquired about getting new arch panels fitted to my BB4 they said a day per side to get it perfect and then cost of paint ontop so it was in the thousands. The fact that your car is Milano Red means its a difficult colour to match/blend in.
Clean the arches and put some photos up if you want some accurate opinions on what cost is likely to be.
In my head both my preludes are worth over £3k each
