Lude has serious clearcoat issues

Post by paul bristol uk » Sat Nov 10, 2018 11:44 am

Trail of devastation
  • Bonnet is losing clearcoat in chunks, ditto top of front wings, wing mirrors, boot lid, and rear bumper.
  • The car was resprayed in 2012
  • Roof, side, doors, and blended in Nov 2016 are fine.
The last job was the guy who did it was fine so I gave him the Soarer to drokk up.
I had one guy look at the car two weeks ago and he priced it at 2k for the panels or 3k for an entire respray subject to the paint cost (cassis red pearl) and he would contact me in a couple of days. Nothing from him since. Others I have contacted are not interested in doing either!

Ideas folks please, the car is my wifes and she wants it done as do I. The car is mechanically and bodily solid with no damage on it. Is that price realistic if I can find anyone else who wants to work for their money?
Car is in South Glos/Bristol

Thanks

Paul

Seems expensive, may be a bit out of your way but try these guys they used to be called BP motor body builders and are a long time family owned business, they've been my go to paint shop for years now, myself and several other dc5 owners have had their cars sprayed there. Lee the manager is sound, I've seen them spray all sorts including an R34 GTR V-Spec Nur (yes that super rare jade green one).

TGM in fleet would do it but it is a bit of a trek. They are used to working on Hondas. I have seen their work and it is top notch.

Its a bit of a trek for you but my best mates dad has his own workshop. He is retired and does it for fun but is old skool and therefore takes pride in his work.

Recently he knocked out a bump on the rear quarter panel for my mums car and also repaired the boot and bumper when she backed into a bollard.

Charged £500. Mums car is a 15 reg Auris and the way he blended the paintwork, you cant even tell.
I came before the chicken.. The argument is now settled!!

£2-3k for a respray is about right.

When I resprayed my lude I put in around £3k of my time prepping, painting and polishing including materials.

Just painted a 5 piece Liberty walk body kit for a car. Easily £1700 of work.

Sill looking for a local person to do this job. The lazy fuckers only want to do scraped panels and bumpers. A couple who had a look seemed to be frightened off by the casis red pearl paint for gods sake! The search continues for a proper tradesman!

Yep £2k-£3k is definitely the going rate.
My BB4 respray was £2.6k (incl. VAT). That wasn't mates rates, it was a commercial body shop and that included all panel prep.
(I did strip and rebuild the car though, so that could easily take it up to £3k)
