I would but it's not worth the hassle IF it's illegal Just for a smaller plate. Plus my mate is a copper, and my uncle. :lol:

There's always been different rules for imports though.

Years ago I got fined for the size of my number plate whilst it was parked in a neighbouring town (It was import size). I went to my local police station to make a fuss the following day, where the head of transport came out to check my car and V5. Saw that it was an import with the smaller motorbike size font and removed the fine ;)

Probably not pertinent for those with imports wanting a smaller plate but for ukdm owners wanting originality the official font changed to a narrower letter width in 2001 to allow space for the side badge. I don’t think it’s legal to use the wider lettering with new replacement plates but several places make them as show plates and who’d know ;)
