Motegi rear lip

Post by Scott560 » Mon Jan 27, 2020 8:55 am

Is their a trick to getting this to fit better?

The front one, even though a copy, fitted like a glove.

The rear fits OK at the sides, there is no gap at all, bumper and lip are flush in this area.

However, at the rear, around the number plate area, the lip is quite pronounced outwards, and there is more than a 1 or 2 mm gap (more like 3 or 4). You can't really see it unless you close, but its annoying none the less.

I cant quite see whats gone wrong, the captive nut clip things are all on and snug, and each 10mm shouldered bolt is done up whilst pushing the lip into place.

Will need to wait for my legs/thighs/arse to recover first - ache all over from the repeated getting up/down.

No lol! Now I've cleaned the car it's less noticeable, just slightly annoying.

Will have to do a mini photo shoot, car is looking half decent now. Really changes the look of the car (motegi kit plus the wheels)

I'll leave it be for risk of making it worse

See from memory the standard lip stays on and helps shape it properly.

No way would my motegi lip fit over the standard lip. They use the same identical mounting points and slide in clip in points. The slide in points are only thick enough for one lip....ie a few millimetres gap.

Yep 100% Motegi lip follows the same mounting points as the standard lip. You can install the Motegi lip over the standard bud.

My point was it wont. One won't fit over the other. Mine wouldn't. I had to remove the standard lip to fit the motegi. Fitting the standard lip behind the motegi fits no purpose as its totally hidden.

I think Lankysod meant to say 'can't' instead of can  - It wouldn't make sense for honda to fit the lip on top of the other (costs/effort) , same with sideskirts, they replace the original.

Actually now you mention the locating tabs/slots (about 1.5 inches wide, 2mm thick plastic tab protruding from skirt, slot in bumper just under the number plate holder) - there is no way the Motegi lip could fit over the existing one (not unless it was butchered)

Still loving the transformation, the motegi kit, refurbed 17s with the low profile tyres, it really is a big difference!
