Unusual 5G Boot Leak

I'm now tackling a boot leak which started last winter. It's an unusual one because the source is not the usual culprits. Both sunroof drains are fine and it's not the rear light gaskets. Even though I did not think they were at fault, I replaced them both during November last year to be on the safe side.

Water is entering the boot from this internal panel gap:

I have removed the boot lid seal and assume water can only be getting to there through a gap where the panels meet:

First off, I need to tackle the surface rust then (hopefully) fix the leak. I plan to use polyurethane sealant along the panel gaps which are usually hidden under the seal, before refitting the boot lid seal.

Has anyone here come across this before?

Not seen a leak there before but seen similar issue on 5th gen where water leaks thru panel gap or seam sealer has gone porous - normally use tiger seal to fix it - not the easiest stuff to use but it does work

Just bumping an old thread - I have this too on my 5th, both in the pictures uploaded, and further up the left on another seam, which drips down near the jack. I still need to tackle this.

My friend has an old 7th gen civic (breadvan type), and the seam sealer has cracked/gone porous on the roof joins, and the effects are pretty bad. I would try to seal it up once we have had some dry weather (so as to ensure you are not trapping moisture in where possible), and take some preventative maintenance to prevent ingress where the seam sealer may fail in the future. My guest is whilst the insides of the seams are galvanised, they won't be painted so I'm guessing they will start to rust through quicker than expected?

I have something similar. Checked another spare wheel and it was filled with water.

I’m going to take all the carpet, trim and stuff out and then pot water to see where it comes out from. Is that a good idea?

I don’t have a sun roof so that’s out of the question.
