Planning on refurbing my Cam Cover in VHT Wrinkle Red.

Red a few online guides. I was going to use Upol Acid #8 Primer, but half the guides i have read say no need with VHT Wrinkle, just spray on.

I feel that with a primer the bond will be better, but having read the Halford's website it says it is unsuitable for an engine block. I know it is the cam cover, but obviously it still gets very hot. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... 65625#tab4

i always use acid etch better adhesion

acid etch for bare metal, cant see it doing any harm to the VHT

actually I think I have used normal vht over the top of acid etch before

I acid etch all rocker covers i do with BH Etchweld.
Be careful. Wrinkle red is an absolute bitch to get the wrinkles even.

Is BH better than Upol? I also have a rusty old patio table that I have sanded and needs priming and painting.

Plan is to do one cam cover in wrinkle red and a second one to try and replicate the strut bar, I can then see which looks best.



Hoping to rattle can spray the cam cover in black, then using a tin of red car paint, go at it Jackson Pollock style throwing paint from an old hard brush, and then clear coat lacquer when dry. Unless someone has a better idea?

If it all goes tits up, then I will strip the spare and VHT wrinkle red that one as well, put the best looking one on the car and eBay the other.

In an ideal world I'd have a stack of covers to practise on, but in the real world it is the one on the car and a spare!

Back to seriousness though... do your good one properly and J-Pol up the spare and THEN you can see about swapping it and putting your good WR one on eBay?

I never bothered when I redid mine but the were bead blasted and then cleaned, so they had a good key. Just ask Tin Tin about his one.
