yip the only way to fix it for good is to cut it out and weld new metal in.
welding is quite easy once you know how to set your machine up, get yourself some off cuts of plate that are the same thickness as what you want to use for the repair, a mask that you can actual see what your doing through, and just have a play with it on different settings until you either stop leaving chicken sh!t or burning holes. once you get the settings right you will be amazed how easy it is.
if i set my welder up and gave you 10 mins tuition you would be on your way.
just need clean metal,correct ampage,correct wire speed,a mask you can see through and a steady hand.
