CF bonnet re-lacquering

How much does it cost and can you get the CF back to its shiny glory?

I am interested in buying Si's CF bonnet but want to know how much it would cost to get it back to normal. From the pic it look ok so might just need polishing?

Flatten with 1500 - then 2000 grit wet n dry then machine polish it... good as new

Unfortunately it cant be relacquered with showing sanding marks. Wet it and thats what it will look like relacquered.
Best best is to wet sand and polish.

Yer that makes a difference. Thats a nice job.

The idea is to sand it back and get fine and fine and polish it. Then key it up with grey scotch and some scuff stuff paste, then relacquer.
But it takes skill and patience and its ruined if you break through.

Well it turns out it can be done but its difficult. Iv seen cloudy epoxy resin on lacquer before and when sanded back it looked rubbish as it had eaten into the carbon and there was a dip where the resin was sanded. Relacquering it would have been a waste of time.

I didnt think it could be done on fibreglass carbon. Propper Dry carbon can be done.

It may be worth trying a bit of nitromors to get the laquer off, sanding through the lacquer will fook the cf. Once you have the lacquer off, give it a good pressure washing, dry it for few days and bobs your uncle, try a test area first, I have read conflicting info on it attacking the resin, but I would do it if it were mine because I am confident it will be ok. Failing that try a jobby load of thinners, but I reckon that may do more harm to the cf resin than the nitromors.

I surprised this happens to the siebon stuff

make the huge carbon prices a bit off really, if they look like this after one or two years

mine just keeps getting worse and worse, its some cheap make I think, or I'm not so sure now
