Fog Light Problem?

Post by marso70 » Sun Feb 16, 2014 5:11 pm

From what I've seen on here it tends to be a common fault on the 5th Gen that the front fogs are a weak point. On my car someone has spliced into the switch at the back of itn and then fitted an aftermarket relay with fuse under the bonnet. Now I've tested the wires at the back of the switch and at the relay and there does seem to be power, and the inline fuse is fine, However the switch does not light up when pressed and both front fogs don't work. So could it be a faulty switch or simply be both fuses have blown? . They have even gone to the effort of from what I can tell of silocen sealing the lights from the back to stop water getting in. I know they are not essential but I wouldn't mind them working if I could.

Any help at all is appreciated

Paul.

What type of fogs / switch do you have?

It might be that you have aftermarket jdm fogs with a UKDM or USDM switch?
I've done a bit of research this weekend as I've been changing my switch, and some wires do have to be spliced and swapped over as the pins into the switch vary.
There is a relay with jdm ones too. The switch output feeds this relay.
I agree with Merc. Testing the switch should be the first thing. Disconnect it and put a multi meter over the pins to check continuity. If your wires are the same colour as mine the feed will be red / black or red, and the output to the relay will be red / orange.

Don't think they are jdm fogs as its a 2000 plate which I believe is standard? I'll take some pictures and upload them so you can see and hopefully help me out, hopefully it is just the switch.

If they are the projector type then they will be standard UKDM.
Here is a link to the installation guide, with a wiring diagram on page 10, in case it helps.
