the pulley for the powersteering pump is a 4-groove "V" belt, the pulley for alternator & air con is a 6-groove "V" belt.Bludge wrote:so the pulley on the old alt is the same. im well confused now.
maybe the new belt is wrong? but that doesnt explain the belt jumping before.
can i request some pictures of peoples 4th gen alts please so i can compare the pulleys.
if you look at your crank pulley that should confirm how many grooves per belt....get that alternator pulley whipped off and replaced ASAP before it shreds.
you can use 2 spanners to remove the alternator pulley but there's a high chance of damaging the central spindle...don't forget it's a reverse thread!
if you don't have one then you need to go and buy yourself an impact gun. Makita do a little beauty; 18v with 140Nm torque for about £140 with a battery & charger...you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
