To DAB, or not to DAB.....

Post by bennyboy » Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:56 pm

Well I've had a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB54 head unit for years and it's been great, but the lcd is finally giving up and I was looking at a replacement.
I want to stick with BP as I like their stuff and it suits the set up I have in the car.

Two things though - You cant seem to get a DAB AND Bluetooth equipped head unit, am I missing something? I have the BP BT box so it's not the end of the world, but it'd be nice to incorporate as much as poss into the head unit.

Which means - do I go for a bluetooth equipped HU and scrap the DAB, saving an add on box in the process, OR get the DAB one and keep the separate BT box.

Reading up on DAB, its seems that its stuck between a rock and a hard place and no one realle knows if it'll survive (since everyone but the UK is on DAB+..... )

Bluetooth one - http://www.blaupunktdirect.co.uk/car-au ... 20-bt.html
DAB one - http://www.blaupunktdirect.co.uk/car-au ... dab47.html

Opinions/advice appreciated.

Do we need a special antenna for the DAB unit?? Or does the car's stock aerial work? (Sorry for the thread jack)

Need a new aerial or a converter AFAIK, looked at one a while ago then decided I like to choose what I listen to via CD/AUX instead of hoping there's something decent on the radio.

'Digital' aerial required.
I have one that is mounted on the rear screen, via hi ond ds tape. It works via magnets I'd imagine - there is a plate inside the screen too, so basically no need to drill any holes anywhere
