Hey bud,
While I too have ended up using the Hondata S300 in a modified P28, you shouldn't simply dismiss the other options out there. The main thing to do, is find out what tuner you want to use (maybe local) and what they are familiar with. The problem with the open source software such as Crome is finding people in the UK that know how to use it properly. I would add that the software isn’t as user friendly as the S300 stuff, but on the flip side the S300 comes with a price tag.
If you want to know more, have a read of my tuning section of my build, and I hope it doesn’t send you to sleep too quickly!

One thing to add is that chipping an ECU for Crome, Hondata S100/200 (old systems), etc you also modify a couple of things on the board plus add a datalogging port to allow feedback to the tuner to map the car. However with these ‘free’ softwares you need the paid pro licences to be able to use the datalogging part of the software to tune the thing.
Also worth noting that the S300 uses male pins instead of a female socket like the others, so make sure you decide before you get it ‘chipped’. Oh and the basemaps for the lude, are just that, a baseline to get the car to the tuners (driving very reserved!). They should not be used as a ‘tuned’ chip and run 24/7.
The only chip I would recommend are the two I sell myself as they are tried and tested – Spoon map for JDM ECUs or another map for UKDM ECU’s. I can’t vouch for H-tunes stuff, but I can’t ignore that he’s a well trusted member of the Honda scene. I’m sure he could tell you more what the basemap is based upon.
Good luck choosing a route.
Cheers,
Rob
