sorry bud i didn't read your post properly - you did say that you'd hacked your door car up! got to say, they look a fair bit bigger than my 6.5" components...

depth is slightly more, 1cm or so.
Image

diameter is exactly the same, except for the little eyes for the screws sticking out.
Image

speakers came with mounting plate - had to shave them down a little but managed to fit them in the stock holes - baskets were cut away.

let me know if you need the MDF spacers i got as i have no need for them now :)

Thanks for those pics mate.

I definitely need less beefier speakers. Can I see the pics of your MDF spacers? I might be able to glue them to the doors.

you'll want to bolt them to the doors i'd have thought, just sink the bolts in so they don't foul the speakers. they are basically just thick rings, like 1.5cm thick and 2.4cm deep, like a short wide hula-hoop! i got them here

I offered the door card to the door, and there is no room mate. The door card sits flush with the door skin. I canm't believe the Prelude has such skinny doors. lol

yeah i figured to fit the MDF rings i'd have to cut jobby loads of the door card away including all the bits where the door card screws in (so you'd basically just have it clipped in apart from the one screw in the armrest) and i didn't want to start getting into that (although a few times when the angle grinder started wondering, i nearly ended up that way...).

carlos, speakers are kenwood S703P

Heres my old door builds. 7.1" speakers and 78mm depth. You can just see the MDF spacers. Needs to be 18mm toi just clear the window rail. Door cards wouldnt fit back on properly.

Ah, I managed to find a pic of my door card. It has rained so no detailed pics.

I am thinking MDF rings and something to bond it to the car - but I have NEVER used fibreglass and I am NOT a arty creative person.

I think I will just get a new door card and get a pair of smaller speakers.

Gutted is not the word.

Seriously you haven't even hacked anything away yet. Get stuck in.
This is how much plastic you can remove whilst still putting the stock grills back on minus the speaker rings.
Image

MDF spakers on the door itself at least 12mm thick and your fine. If i managed a 7.1" speakers whilst still retaining the stock grill you can put a 6.5" speaker there.
