bb1boy. The quality isn't as good as shinny's camera. Shiny's camera quality seems very good but then my one is a cheapo one. Its typical china quality so the buttons have a rough click to them but they are functional.
The camera is plugged into the cigarette lighter so when I start the engine the camera starts up and starts recording. When I turn off the engine the camera stops recording and turns off automatically which is nice.
It uses a micro SD card and the videos are saved in individual files
I don't record with sound although sound option is there. I don't think you would want to hear my music and me singing on the way to work. lol
Heres a sample quality of the camera. Looking at it again it aint great but it does give you some evidence

I have a camera coming from China, has a small screen, 1080p, night vision, the camera rotates 360 degrees, has g sensor etc.... cost £25.
On a separate note, I found police laser/ camera detectors that are built into a rear view mirror. I have no idea how legal they are in the UK tho.

I have this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-LCD-1280P ... 53fa851d08
Cheap Chinese one but does the job, takes upto 32gb sc card which holds a few days of driving, only thing is you cant make out number plate reg numbers.

Have a look at this site, they have samples of most of the Dash Cams available http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/
Mine says it is 1080p, it's not what i call 1080p, but you can at least read reg nos. I'd head for the highest resolution you can.
From what i read when i bought mine, most of the chinese and ebay dash cams are universal/generic cases and the actual electronic inside can vary considerably depending on who actually made it. Of course there is no way of telling what you have inside and if you have a good one or a naff one.
You can buy Blackvue and the like, but i wouldn't want a £200 cam sat on my dash. I actually know of someone local who had one stolen!
