P13 ECU - Chipped??

Hi guys,

Just cracked my ECU open, and spotted that one of my chips is sitting on a socket rather than being soldered straight in

After reading through a recent thread about ECU chips I understood that the stock ones were soldered to the board, and you had to remove them and fit your own socket in order to make fitting a chip nice and easy in the future. So I'm wondering if this ECU is fitted with an aftermarket chip? Here's a close up of the information printed on it

Hard to tell with it being unmarked, socket is unusual though. What is the full code for the P13?

My thoughts exactly, I'd expect it to be branded if aftermarket, but the socket is weird...

ECU code is 37820-P13-N01, it's from a '92 BB4

yep chipped, all are soldered as std, as its a jdm they are limited to 112mph as a legal requirment in japan so i would assume cars made for the jdm marked would not be socketed or it would defeat the object of the limit in the first place. honda would prob get there knuckles wraped for it if they did. it may not be branded as it could have been done at a tuning station, most will have there own rom edditors, it may just defeat the speed limit. where is your rev limit? where does vtec come on? the serial number on the chip is of a one time programable eprom chip and is very common and as such unlikely to be an ebay one (or it would have branding i would have thought) this would sugest that it was done at a tuning station.

Cool, would be interesting to find out what sort of chip it is, hope it's not one of those ropey eBay ones!! :?

The other thing I'm thinking is I'd actually quite like the stock chip back in, as I'm getting the engine set up in my Accord I'd prefer to have everything using default settings first for ease when it comes to troubleshooting. Then start tuning once she's running nicely. Might have to stick up a thread in the wanted section!!

No idea about the rev limiter or speed limiter by the way, my engine is in the garage and the car is in pieces :P

Glad that it sounds like it's not an eBay one at least :) I checked the soldering on the back and it looks very professional, hopefully it was all done by somebody who knew what they were doing!

i wouldnt worry about it, most ebay chips are fake branded or they wouldnt sell

Yeah it was Rob's thread I'd been reading, once I'm up and running I'll definitely be in touch with him about further chipping. Hopefully the socket being fitted already should make my life easy, just need to put my ECU somewhere accessible to make swapping over that bit easier. At any rate I think this might've been a bit of a turn up for the books :D

could be :D if you do desided to switch it over, might be a good idea to send it to rob anyhow, he could have a look at the map used.
