Hi guys, how do I do this? Had a look, but couldn't decide the best way to access it.
Any help would be appreciated.

Lights down, bulb out. Very very easy. Drivers side it's battery air intake removal for easier life.

Well that's what it looked like, but can't see that there's enough room to get the bulb through the gap??

no no no .
remove the black surround with the lights up using the button on the dash. 4 screws, one on the right, one on the left, and 2 in the middle.
the chrome surround that holds the lamp to the poppy upy bit, there's three screws, one in the top left corner, one in the top right corner, and one kinda in the middle, but to the right of this center screw. the head of the screw moves out of the slot as its sprung loaded.. do not turn as these are the headlamp aim adjusters too. remove this surround and the whole unit glass unit pops out. remove the wire and the boot. job done. no need for battery or air box removal.
be careful the sealed unit falls into your lap..

Thanks Sam. Sounds complicated, but I will have a go tomorrow & let you know how I get on.
How long would you expect it to take, to change both bulbs?

Your lights must be different then. Both of mine were the facelift 3rd Gens and to change the bulbs took 30secs.
Light down gives access to the back. Remove the rubber bung and then unclip the metal bracket holding the H4 bulb in and pull it out.
Pre facelift 3rd Gens must be a whole unit.

Sounds like the same design Scott, just a much smaller gap at the back of mine. The rubber bung is still exposed, but the gap isn't even big enough to fit a bulb through.

Is there no help in the 3rd gen service manual?

Probably, but I can't lay my hands on it..
Just had a go at it..but those 3 screws you mentioned Sam (for the metal casing) were reversed. So I couldn't access them without removing the 3 adjustment screws.
So the bulb has been replaced now, but the beam is probably well off. Tried to adjust it by eye, but that's not really possible. So I'll have to see how many times I get flashed this evening to gauge how bad it is.
