Lude Generation

Hi guys looking for a few tips on where to look before admitting defeat and paying the garage an arm and a leg :/

I have a 5th gen prelude with a toad alarm and an immobiliser if I lock the car using the fob the battery dies.... Also when unlocking the car I need to use the key to get in the door then put the key in the ignition turn so electrics are on then press the fob any other way results in the alarm going off or the immobiliser light blinking meaning I have to lock the car and start over to get it started Any ideas?

are we talking about the fob battery or the car battery

Remove it and fit another system

The actual car battery and I was hoping there was a way to fix before just replacing with a new one

Does the battery only drain when the alarm is set? i.e. if you leave the car but don't set the alarm, the battery is ok?

Yes to lock the car I have to use the key in the lock immobiliser kicks in and I'm assuming the alarm still sets itself as explained above it does go off if I don't try to get in and start it as explained above but as long as I don't use the fob to lock the car the battery dosent drain if I use the fob car is dead as a dodo within a few hours if I don't use the fob no problem

Well my guess is the alarm control unit itself. But without someone there with a multimeter to measure current draw, it would be impossible to advise on a fix. I know the falcon alarm control box can be like this, (holds the central locking relays on), therefore whacking out a battery in a matter of a few hours. Where are you based??

What make of after market alarm is it and do you have any idea how long it's been fitted for?

Normally the immobiliser and alarm units are separate. If you pull the fuses from the alarm that should stop the alarm doing anything (first time you open the car like that, it might squawk at you until the alarms internal battery runs flat), but the immobiliser part may still work ok.
Then you should be able to live with the car normally?
Unless you're bothered about having a working alarm???

It's not of any issue to me but when the Mrs drives the car she always forgets and it's a pain having to take the battery out and re charge it every time she drives my car lol that and re charging a battery at least once a month can't be doing the battery any good

The alarm system is a toad alarm fitted in 2010 according to the receipt (was before I owned the car)

Electrics aren't my strong point so this could be a garage spinning me a line to charge me more money but I was told it's wired to the battery and simply removing the fuse won't do the trick? You will have to bare with me if I'm asking stupid questions but how would I find which fuse was fir the alarm to try out your suggestion?
